I'm Natasha Pesin,
Ceramic Artist
I was born in Moscow, Russia where I worked in the Publishing house "Education" as a senior editor of mathematical books for school students and teachers. In 1990 I came to the US and started working as a volunteer at the Student Art and Craft Center at Penn State, where I first began doing ceramics. Since I have taken several advanced ceramics and sculpture courses at Penn State University and the Student Center where I learned and practiced hand-built and wheel techniques. I was a member of Art Alliance (Lemont, PA) for two years, and a member of the Creative Oasis Studio. I have participated in several sale-exhibitions at the Student Center, at the Art Alliance exhibition (Lemont, PA), and the Creative Oasis Studio exhibition. I have also exhibited my works at the Tower of Glass (State College, PA) and was invited to participate in several exhibitions in Boston as well as the Pennsylvania State Museum (Harrisburg) and Altoona Art Museum. I prefer hand-built ceramics works, which are richly decorated; they are rather displayed than functional. I like flowers and flower arrangements and I do vases of different shapes and styles. I like nature and often decorate my ceramics plates (as well as my other works) by branches, which I use as my symbol. Since my roots lie in Russian and European culture I keep up their traditions in my works and I believe this can make them unique and unusual. I have visited Japan several times and I realized that many of my ceramics item strikingly resemble Japanese ceramics.
